Not much in town apart from two small shops and good internet in the square (next to the noisy generator).

Got here late after a long and exhausting day and everything (I.e. Both guesthouses) we're full. Luckily, because it gets to -15° at night, I was offered a free bed in a small storage room (with heater!) and a shower. It was in Planeta Puna, to say thanks I had dinner and breakfast there. The menu is 1500Ars (3€) but I fancied something different and breakfast was 800Ars and it's coffee and bread with jam, etc. Lovely staff.

Went to the Municipal Hostel where I helped some guys who needed to get out of there quickly because of Altitude Sickness and inherited their room (which they had paid for already) as a reward ... Sometimes the universe rules! Anyway, this place is actually highly recommended, lovely staff, modern and clean infrastructure and cheap!

Famous mine which hosts travellers. They allowed me to sleep in the driver's common room which is not super cool because they go to bed late and wake up early BUT it's a comfy place and there's great showers. They also give you food (!), there's drinking water and everyone is really friendly.

Really needed a good rest so checked-in Hospedaje Punita; 6000 Ars (12€) with breakfast that I had to prepare myself because there is no-one around, warmish water and a lot of noise at night... I decided to stay an extra day (El Peñón is actually quite interesting) but moved Guest House; I bumped into a couple that I met yesterday on the road and they are staying just next door at Hospedaje Don Carmelo Which is much nicer, more friendly and cheaper (4000 Ars / 8€).

There's a shrine to Santa Rita with shade, table and chairs. Cyclists usually camp behind a small building to shield from the wind. There was no wind so I camped in the bushes behind it. Very quiet and beautiful night sky.

Stayed at Hotel Handala, normally for mine workers but Sandra, the owner, was more than happy to help two cyclists suffering from the warm temperatures and let us a room for free !! We were even able to enjoy the swimming pool :) There is a commun area (with air conditioning), and a kitchen that we could use. She also gave us some food that she had from some leftovers from workers. Sandra is more than happy to help other cyclists like us, so don't hesitate to go there !

We were afraid it was going to be noisy at night (it's Friday and summer), but we were lucky enough to find a small path only accessible to pedestrians and cyclists :) We're alone in the middle of the bush, and with access to the river; 5 stars !

It's difficult in this area to wildcamp because everything is fenced. So, when we got to Vivanco we asked the Carabineros (Police Station) where we could pitch our tent. They told us to go see the Qezada family, they have a big house and field and will be able to help. They did indeed :) Margarita was happy to let us camp in her garden. Fun fact, in the middle of her garden there is the old train track !

Hard cycling day on a very bad dirt road, with many short but steep climbs, and very hot temperatures (summer is here!). A nice lady offered us some cherries during the day, a nice way to cheer us up! Happy to have found this wildcamping spot by the river, where we had a nice fresh swim. The perfect reward ! WARNING; the river is connected to the sea and we can feel the tide is getting higher and higher, so we might not make it to 2023 :O ... seriously, it's a tidal river so please be careful [...]

We found a small path leading to a remote place with houses. The lady said we (and anyone who wants to) could camp in her field. At night we shared some tea and nice homemade bread :) It's very easy to find the place, coming from the south, turn right just after the bridge and follow the small road for about 200 metres, there's a fence on your left (closed with only a bit of string), enter and follow the path to the end (another 200 metres) and you'll see her house. A nice alternative to the famous Carretera Austral with great views and lots of marine wildlife (we saw dolphins), although the dirt road is in quite bad conditions. We wanted to wildcamp on the beach, right behind the yellow public building but Don Tulio, who lives just opposite, offered us to pitch our tent in his field and we were delighted to share some moments with him and know more about the local culture.

The best deal we could find in Hornipiren. Claudio; +56988032926 - We stayed various nights and managed to lower the price to almost 30k/per night (it's Christmas and there's a lot of availability everywhere). The cabañas are very well equipped (there's even an oven and washing machine!) and very comfortable BUT there are lots of dogs everywhere which make quite a lot of noise at night. This seems to be quite an issue all over this town though ...

Most campsites in this area belong to the National Park and are very nice (with toilet and shower (mostly cold)). We stayed for free; nobody ever came to charge us ... maybe because everyone is away on holiday? Ps, it's also possible to camp at Caleta Gonzalo; there is a nice little "resort" which is apparently very bike friendly and let cyclists camp for free and there is a big green area with public toilets right next to the dock which might probably allow camping too

Hospedaje Rita; great place to stay! 15.000 CLP pp per night. Private room with shared bathroom (really nice, hot shower with a lot of pressure, just perfect :). You can use the kitchen (lots of cooking tools). There is also a living room as a commun area where you meet other travellers. The rooms are not very well isolated though so you hear people in the room next to you. Other than that, we highly recommend this place ! And Rita, the host, is a really nice lady!

Accommodation 2 kms away from Santa Lucia at Daniel's house. 15.000 CLP per person per night for a private room (for 2) and shared bathroom, kitchen and living room. You basically stay with Daniel, who is a very nice and interesting person. Otherwise, on the other side of the road, he offers a campground for FREE (upon donation). The place is really nice, it has tables and places for fire, but no covered area. If you want to be in the nature, this is the perfect place !

We took the boat from Puerto Natales to Caleta Tortel; a great experience! You get all the meals and there are showers onboard! There is no internet connection on the boat so we had talked to the owner of the campsite in Tortel in advance so he knew we were arriving. Accomodation: we stayed at Camping Juanito, which is not really a campsite, but a large room where you can put your mastress on the floor. You have access to the bathrooms, and a commun area. We slept at the bus terminal, not ideal because it was very windy and we were in the middle of the village. We recommend you to go ask at the police station if you can pitch your tent in their compound and at least you'll have access to the bathroom, and you can ask for some water.

Camping Lago Pehoe 12.000 CLP pp with a sheltered area to pitch the tent, hot showers and a nice indoor commun area where you can order some food and drinks, or eat your own breakfast. In front of the cave, there's is an abandoned restaurant. We stayed behind it, where there's a kind of barbecue area so that we were protected from the rain/snow and wind at night. Bathrooms of the check-in area for the cave are openned from 8am to 8pm.

One of the small buildings was not locked and we could spend the afternoon and sleep there, which was great because of the strong wind ! Next to the abandoned house, there is a building where people control the weight of the vehicles and we asked them for some water and used their bathroom.

From Poicenot we actually walked North till Ruta 41 and then hitchhiked back to El Chalten. We first went back to Casa Azul for a night and hired a double room but it's not great (not clean, cold, and noisy) so we changed place and camped for a night at El Paredon which we preferred (very nice staff, lots of like minded people and a good common area/kitchen).

The bus to El Chalten is actually quite expensive and in Argentina is pretty safe (and easy) to hitchhike so we thought we'd give it a go! Got picked up by a lovely old farmer who took us to outside of town where we waited a while (and put on all of our clothes because it was freezing!) and then got picked up by a guy who works in tourism so he gave us lots of nice tips about El Chalten :)

Accomodation: Stayed with a local. Food: La Cantina Piadineria & beer house is a great local place to hang out. We also recommend to have a Guanaco Burger at Mako Premium Bar. Perrito Moreno: We hitchhiked from El Calafate to get to the Perrito Moreno Park. Some Argentinians took us there and asked the entrance tickets for us, this way we paid the local price.

Our next big destination is Nepal. But after realizing we were not going to be able to cycle through Tibet (forbidden for foreigners without booking a tour), we had to think of a Plan B. Pakistan openned an online visa application system one month ago and we had to take this opportunity as our only chance to cycle all the way to Nepal. We had problems with our visas and we were stuck in China for 2 weeks but today we finally made it to the border !!!

This village is 3.600 meters high and has natural hot springs everywhere !!! We are gonna stay here for a few days. Especialmy because it is snowing and we will wait for the good weather to be back so we can climb up to 4.300 m in good conditions :)
